Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study identifies the skills and knowledge that companies consider important for systems engineers to have and determines the amount of training offered by the companies to develop the same skills and knowledge. A survey of companies with training programs for systems engineers was administered and identified critical skills and knowledge to be basic problem solving, development and management of requirements, teamwork and communication, and system optimization. The amount of training offered to develop these skills and knowledge varies considerably from company to company and does not correlate with the emphasis the company places on the same skills and knowledge.
