Abstract

•Beta-blockers remain an important group of medications for heart failure and other indications. •Cardioselective beta-blockers work on beta-1 receptors found mostly in the heart, which can decrease heart rate and contractility. •Noncardioselective beta-blockers work on various beta-receptors, and some also work on alpha-receptors. •It is important to fully understand and appreciate the use of beta-blockers in patient care.
