Abstract
Brazil's economic growth and development have a strong relationship with agribusiness. Agribusiness is made up of a production chain. This chain can be influenced by several problems, which can compromise the entire production cycle, such as various diseases and pests that can affect crops and reduce productivity, generating economic losses for producers. The objective of this literature review, of an exploratory-descriptive nature, is to present an overview of the economic, social, and environmental importance of Brazilian agribusiness, focusing on the western region of Bahia, pointing out its main challenges, as well as discussing the use of biotechnological tools for controlling plant diseases.
