Abstract
This paper presents a binary control scheme for reactive power compensation together with transient free switching of capacitor banks. The work approaches with performance estimation through analysis, design and practical realization of actual system. The strategy composed of Thyristor Binary Switched Capacitor (TBSC) banks. TBSC is in accordance with a set of Thyristor Switched Capacitor (TSC) banks organized in binary consecutive way. Numerous switching of capacitor affects on life of switched capacitor banks. Thus a managing circuitry has been established in such a manner that transient free switching of TBSC bank will occur. The proposed strategy can realized into the reactive power compensation on sequential way and the harmonic content of the source are maintain at the negligible levels owing to the filtering action of TBSC and also the switching of capacitor banks is transient free.
