Abstract

Introduction: Typical safety of WMD-CST chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) personnel within the contaminated “hot zone” uses a subjective “buddy” assessment system. Thermal-work limits have typically been set on the basis of group means and normal ranges. Individualized monitoring and predictions for mission management are now possible using real-time physiological monitoring. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of physiological status monitoring and the role of the research community in this process.
