Abstract

A description is presented of how to use a query-by-example (QBE) relational database manager as a tool for setting up expert systems. The traditional components of an expert system, namely, the knowledge base, the inference engine, and the user interface are structured and integrated into a database environment using the built-in facilities of the database manager. A fault diagnosis expert system for an electric power system is implemented in this environment. The expert system accesses existing databases through database management system query commands. >
