Abstract

The quality of electrocardiogram (ECG) signal is fundamental for reliable patient diagnosis. Reality is that ECG signal will be, in most cases, corrupted with electromagnetic interference (EMI) from several sources, mainly power-line. This type of interference can be reduced with different well-known methods like IIR (infinite impulse response) notch filters and adaptive cancelling algorithms. In this work, a 60 Hz interference cancellation algorithm is applied on real ECG data, which is processed in an embedded system built on STMicroelectronics STM32F401RE Cortex M4 microcontroller, and multichannel 24-bit ADS1298 (ADC) from Texas Instruments. The performance of this embedded algorithm is calculated as interference suppression (percentage) and extracted interference from a single ADS1298 channel.
