Abstract
In this paper, an efficient and inexpensive vehicle tracking system has been discussed. This device is installed in the vehicle and transmits data about its whereabouts to the server. The system contains a global positioning system (GPS) module to detect the location of the vehicle along with it its speed and path. A global system for mobile communication (GSM) module and a general packet radio service (GPRS) module are also used. This is a common way to communicate with a web server; these two modules send the data of the location of the vehicle to the database where it is stored. The GPRS module ensures continuous communication with the database and helps the user track his vehicle in real-time from its website which uses the Google map API to show the position. The GSM module also allows the user to get the location in the form of short message service (SMS). This enables the user to locate the vehicle on demand without having to login to the website. This paper further describes the effectiveness and other implementations like asset tracking, of the system.
