Abstract

This paper deals with some practical computational aspects and numerical evaluation of the previously developed mixed-time implicit-explicit methods for structural dynamics. Three different topics: computer implementation of the mixed-time procedures; hourglass control for bilinear quadrilaterals using one-point quadrature and its effect on numerical stability in the explicit partition; and spurious oscillations in solutions are discussed. Two numerical examples are presented to examine the accuracy and effectiveness of mixed-time formulations.
