Abstract

This research is motivated by low cognitive ability and lack of student activity in learning activities. This is because teachers still use the lecture method and do not make use of interesting learning models. The purpose of this research is to improve cognitive ability and active learning. This study used the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model with 2 cycles of Classroom Action Research. Each cycle is carried out in two meetings with four stages of activity namely planning, implementation, observation/observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 8 grade IV students of SD Negeri 2 Penggung consisting of 3 boys and 5 girls. Data collection techniques consist of tests and observations. The results of the research cycle 1 obtained data on the percentage of students' cognitive abilities in science subjects by 62.5%, increasing to 87.5% in cycle 2. Student learning activeness also increased. This can be proven by the percentage of cognitive abilities of class IV students who completed in cycle 1 of 62.5% rose to 87.5% in cycle 2. The percentage increase also occurred in student learning activity in cycle 1 of 12.5% ​​with high activity criteria, 25% medium activity criteria, and 62.5% low activity to 62 .5% high activity. 25% moderate activity, and 12.5% ​​low activity in cycle 2. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the application of the Project Based Learning learning model can improve the cognitive abilities and learning activeness of fourth grade students at SDN 2 Penggung.
