Abstract

With significant advantages on space, cost, and efficiency, gigahertz transverse electromagnetic (GTEM) cell is becoming more and more popular in electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) measurements in recent years. However, different with free space and open area test site (OATS), GTEM cell has a classic structure that is mainly consisted with metal in four parts: taper housing, septum, absorbing materials, and the RF port at the front cross-section. While EMI or EMS, or other measurements are carried out in GTEM cell, coupling effect exists between the metal structure of GTEM cell and antenna of equipment under test (EUT), that shifts the impedance of antenna, and finally influence the result of the measurement. This effect is studied in this paper, and the formula combined structure parameters of GTEM cell for input impedance calculation of dipole antenna is deduced, furthermore it is verified by simulation with software HFSS.
