Abstract

At first sight, reciprocity and the general properties of the impedance matrix of porous layered materials may seem to be only of academic interest. Nevertheless, it may be pointed out that invariance and symmetry laws provide simple tests to check the validity of empirical laws and the absence of errors in programs. Moreover, transfer matrices are not very suitable for describing systems with different numbers of input and output parameters, and impedance or admittance matrices can be useful for the description of these systems. In this chapter, some simple symmetries related to sound transmission through layered porous media are set out with the help of these matrices.
