Abstract

The process of agriculture modernization has caused an intense exodus in most peripheral cities, mainly affecting the familiar agriculturists. Among these, the ones who stayed in the country live, in many cases, in precarious conditions. In this context, rural retirement is presented as one of the main public policies for the familiar agriculturist. Thus, the aim of this work is to point out the impact of rural retirement in the decrease of population evasion, in the improvement of quality of life for the small agriculturist, and in the strengthening of local trade in the city of Tuneiras do Oeste-Pr. Therefore, to perform the investigation, it was used the dialectical and historical materialist method and it was made a theoretical survey, and also a survey of secondary statistical data, besides the application of questionnaires to ten rural retired in the city. The results show that rural retirement is an effective device for maintaining the small agriculturist in the country, for the improvement of his quality of life, and for the strengthening of the city’s local trade.
