Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the socioeconomic impacts of the completion of a college course by individuals benefiting from a public policy of the federal government, entitled University for All program (ProUni). Concepts and typologies of public policy and a discussion about the ProUni, based on several secondary documents, were approached as theoretical reference. In methodological terms, a qualitative research was undertaken using 12 in-depth interviews with students benefiting from ProUni, egressed from a higher education institution in Rio de Janeiro. Overall, the results show that there were improvements in the lives of these individuals, in terms of career advancement, motivation and expansion of their social network. Regarding its relevance, the research is justified by expanding the studies on public policy and generating insights on the effectiveness of a Brazilian public policy.
