Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the factors which affect the economic and social development of the municipality of Ouro Verde do Oeste (Parana State) and suggest mechanisms to strengthen its inclusion in the regional economy. For this, qualitative research was chosen, based on systematic data from official sources, references of contemporary contributions on regional development and issues of Parana State, as well as in field research. The results showed that the municipality has difficulties in employment and income, which causes the displacement of manpower to other regions in search of placement in the labor market and better opportunities. This problem demonstrates the necessity of intervention by the municipal government in creating strategies, starting from endogenous factors, to reduce inequalities in the territory and promote local development. Some solutions were pointed out, but they rely on public policies which drive community efforts for this purpose, being able to motivate a sense of belonging and generate positive results in the long term.
