Abstract

Notch impact test of composites laminated with ultrahigh carbon steel (UHCS) containing five different interleaf materials indicate that a UHCS-brass combination provides the best impact properties at low temperature. This is because brass does not exhibit a ductile-brittle transition temperature and thereby contributes to blunting of propagating notches.
