Abstract

This paper studies the stability enhancement based on two area test system which is integrated with Wind Farm (WF), Electric Vehicle (EV) based battery charging station and Power System Stabilizer (PSS) for Synchronous Generator (SG). With increasing penetration of WF and fault ride through problem, the systems results in oscillatory behavior and instability. This paper examines the impacts of WF and battery charging and storage system. The comparative transient stability analysis is carried with and without PSS for SGs and battery as backup supply to enhance the stability. The stability is carried out by considering the two-area test system with three phase short circuit fault at bus to analyze the effectiveness and robustness of the controller. Due to application of fault, the system undergoes instability and reduces stability. The instability is occurred due to inadequate reactive power in WF and acting load to grid. It is overcome by providing back up supply for a short duration with storage batteries. To enhance further stability, the system is incorporator with PSS for SGs. The test system is analyzed and noticed that stability is further increased with lesser oscillation and lower settling time. It is also observed from the result that EV based battery charging station is having a higher impact on system stability. By adding PSS and short duration battery supply into the system during fault condition, the overall stability is enhanced.
