Abstract

Abstract. A new coronavirus pandemic is sweeping the world, causing significant damage to the global economy. To control the pandemic, it is necessary to vaccinate a large part of the population. The most common clinical manifestation of the new variant of coronavirus infection is bilateral pneumonia. The likelihood of COVID-19 increases dramatically in the elderly, and they may require hospitalization, intensive care, or transfer to a ventilator. There is also an increased risk of mortality for the elderly. The presence of comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, lower respiratory tract disease, and cardiovascular disease increases the likelihood of a severe course of COVID-19. The study was conducted on the basis of the State budget institution of the Republic of Mari El "Republican clinical hospital of war veterans". 334 case histories of patients were analyzed, 61,1% of whom were persons aged 60 and over. For the comparative analysis of morbidity in the Republic of Mari El and Russia in general the initial similar data for 6 months of 2021 (from 01.06.2001 till 31.12.2021) according to site statdata.ru were taken. The comparative analysis of the incidence of COVID-19 in Mari El and in Russia as a whole was performed in the study; it was shown that the effect of vaccination significantly reduced the risk of a severe course of COVID-19 with acute respiratory failure in elderly patients, as well as reduced the duration of hospitalization of the patient, which allowed to save financial resources of the medical organization. An analysis of the impact of multiple comorbidities on the severity of the course of new coronavirus infection is presented.
