Abstract

Many countries are implementing MSW recycling programmes to improve the environmental situation and quality of life. The sphere of solid municipal waste management in Russia lags behind the developed countries and is mainly aimed at landfilling. This is largely due to the problem of separate collection of MSW. The article considers the problem of waste management on the example of Primorsky Krai and its regional centre Vladivostok, which is characterized by the problem of solid municipal and domestic waste disposal, which negatively affects the ecological situation of the whole region. The article analyzes the state of the environment of the city and its surrounding areas, identifying the main sources of pollution. The data on waste recycling and population dynamics are analyzed, a map of Primorsky Krai landfills and a scheme of solid waste recycling are shown. Measures aimed at enhancing the role of waste recycling as a promising method of waste management are proposed.
