Abstract

This study evaluated the influence of Tanaka parameter-based cyclic plasticity modeling on fatigue life estimation under multiaxial loading. The life predictions based on the experimental stress–strain data, simulated by the Chaboche cyclic plasticity model and Chaboche model with the implemented Tanaka parameter, were compared for this purpose. The fatigue life was then calculated using three popular prediction models for the two steel grades exhibiting moderate non-proportional hardening. Eleven multiaxial loadings were investigated, including proportional, 90° out-of-phase, and asynchronous cases. Modeling the cyclic material response using the coupled Chaboche and Tanaka models revealed to have improved all fatigue life predictions.
