Abstract

Highly efficient and reliable semiconductor devices, which processed the electrical power, are very essential for stable and efficient power system. Semiconductors based controllers is a keystone technology in power distribution system. Semiconductor plays a vital role for improvement of voltage stability in power system. This paper principally integrates semiconductor based Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) controller to improve the voltage stability. A Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based algorithm is developed to determine optimal location ofsemiconductor based Static Voltage Controller (SVC) for improving the voltage security. The impact of semiconductor based controller with most critical line outage is also evaluated. Authors compare the results with and without controller under different circumstances such as most critical contingency and under normal condition at rated load. Results show that proposed methodology is competent and SVC is one of the most suitable semiconductor based controller.
