Abstract

A tandem mirror reactor systems computer modelling code has been developed and the impact of various electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) system designs on plant cost and operation has been studied. It is shown that there is an incentive to develop high power (Megawatt) gyrotrons with depressed collectors. In addition, the optimum combination of tubes and power supplies has been studied to arrive at the lowest cost ECRH system.
