Abstract

Objective To explore the impact of group health education on compliance behavior in patients with diabetes.Methods 202 patients with diabetes who had been treated during the period of January 2010 to May 2011 were randomly divided into two groups.The control group (101 patients) received conventional health education; while the study group (101 patients) received group health education in addition to conventional education.Compliance behavior was compared between the patients in the two groups who continued to receive treatment outside hospital.Results The study group was significantly better than the control group in uses of medication,self blood glucose monitoring,dietary and exercise,regular clinic visits,and health habits.The total score on compliance behavior assessment was (87.21 ± 5.21) in the study group and (67.12 ± 4.23) in the control group,with a significant difference (t =34.2314,P<0.05).the control of fasting glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose and glycated blood protein was better in the study group than in the control group,with a significant difference (P<0.05).Conclusions Group health education in addition to conventional education can significantly improve compliance behavior in patients with diabetes and has a better control of blood glucose levels.It is worth popularizing.
