Abstract
The impact and occurrence of El Niño is being discussed in this paper in relation to particularly rainfall and the effects on oil palm yield. High rainfall could contribute to lower fruit set and bunch weight. Annual FFB yield was reduced in 1998 which was lower than that in previous years due to the occurrence of a severe El Niño event during that period. A continuously low rainfall (<100 mm) for more than two months will have significant effects on the palm yield. Keywords: El Niño, FFB yield, low rainfall.
