Abstract
The interest of immunophenotyping by flow cytometry in clinical biology involves many fields : • description of normal blood cells, bone marrow cells and cells from various organs, • analysis of human leucocyte differentiation antigens, • studies of stem cells, cell birth, viability and programmed cell death, • description of cell signalling and functions, • the various immunopathology headings could be considered : immunodeficiencies, auto-immune diseases, transplantations, lympho-proliferative disorders, allergy, • application in the diagnosis of hematologic disorders, • cancer research, immunosurvey against tumor cells and immunotherapy. The ability to identify cellular antigens, and associate the studies of nucleic acid or cell ploidy by flow cytometry is a major step in understanding physiological mechanisms in many diseases.
