Abstract

Sixteen years have passed since the appearance of the first edition of Dr. Sherwood's “Immunology”. In that time, this text has become deservedly popular with thousands of students. The third edition follows the plan of the other two: the literature on every subject is covered completely and without prejudice; at the end of the discussions, the facts and the theories are recapitulated in outline form; if the cited viewpoints are in conflict, the author finishes by giving his own interpretations. Dr. Sherwood believes in helping the student by anticipating and clarifying those points that are hard to grasp. He does this in part by including the pertinent biochemistry, anatomy, and pathology, and by defining most technical terms completely and without ambiguity. In a few chapters the author strays somewhat from this general plan. For example, the chapter on the Blood Groups needs revision.
