The NACHT domain is found in eukaryotic pattern recognition receptors that promote anti-microbial defense, mediating their oligomerization into immune signaling complexes. Kibby etal. uncover a superfamily of prokaryotic NACHT-containing proteins and demonstrate that some members of this family mediate anti-phage defense.
