Abstract
Degranulation of rat mast cells (MCs) involves specific proteins such as the synaptosomal-associated protein of 23 kDa (SNAP-23) and syntaxin 4. Eosinophilic granule cells (EGCS) in teleosts have been proposed to be the functional equivalent of MCs in mammals. By immunocytochemistry it was found to be an expression of SNAP-23 and syntaxin 4 in peritoneal EGCS/MCs from tilapia, suggesting their participation in the degranulation process.
