Abstract

Summary Two fractions containing antibody to human γ2-globulin which differed in their electrophoretic mobility were prepared from an immune horse serum by a procedure involving salt fractionation, column chromatography on diethylaminoethyl-cellulose and starch block electrophoresis. Fractions were examined by sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation and their behavior with antigen established by quantitative precipitation and passive hemagglutination. While fractions containing 7 S γ2 antibody gave the conventional type “rabbit-type” quantitative precipitin curve, a fraction containing 7 S γ1 antibody gave a flocculating-type curve. Both 7 S γ2 and 7 S γ1 antibody fractions appear to be comparable in their ability to agglutinate antigen-coated red cells.
