Abstract

IMMUNOBIOLOGY OF THE FOWLOn August 9, 1977, a symposium entitled “Immunobiology” was presented at the 66th Annual Poultry Science Association meeting held at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama. The symposium, sponsored jointly by the Physiology, Genetics, and Pathology sections of the Association, attempted to move from the broad, basic biology of immunology in animals in general, to the more narrow description in birds, and finally into the effects of environment and genetics on the immune response.Thus, the first paper, “The Biology of the Immune Response,” by Max D. Cooper of the School of Medicine, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Using his wide experience, gained while working in the U.S. and in England on a variety of species, including chickens, Dr. Cooper described the biological activities that take place during the development and maturation of immunological competence in animals.In the second paper, “The Immune Response in Birds,” Bruce Glick .
