Abstract

A generalized thermodynamic analysis is given on the unstable region behavior for type A1-xBxC1-yDy strictly regular quaternary solid solutions with positive pseudobinary interaction parameters as found in III-V quaternary solid solutions. An expression is derived for the spinodal curves. It is known that possible unstable region behaviors can be classified into three major categories, depending on the relative magnitudes of pseudobinary and quaternary interaction parameters. This fact is demonstrated by an extensive numerical calculation on the temperature dependence of unstable region extent. An approximate expression for quaternary critical temperature for a simple case is also shown.
