Abstract

1. Try in the denture and inspect the existing borders for proper extension. Observe depth and configuration of the buccal vestibule where the missing buccal flange would extend. 2. Select a slightly oversized, perforated impression tray that will ad.equately fit over the denture. Extend utility wax across the posterior border and buccal flange area of tray and mold the wax border (Fig. 2). 3. Sprinkle a thin film of denture adhesive powder onto the tissue-contacting side of the denture and wipe away palatal secretions intraorally with guaze. 4. Mark the vibrating line in the palatal area with indelible pencil and insert the denture, pressing it comfortably into place. 5. Mix light-bodied irreversible hydrocolloid impression material (Jeltrate, L. D. Caulk Co., Milford, Del.) according to the manufacturer’s specifications and load th.e tray, making sure that the region of the denture deficiency will be recorded with adequate bulk of impression material. 6. Place the tray in the mouth over the denture and seat the tray until the impression material flows out into the buccal tissue reflections and just over the posterior palatal seal area. 7. Remove the impression along with the embedded denture and rinse the denture adhesive powder from the denture surface and from the patient’s mouth. 8. Inspect the: impression to make sure that it has adequately recorded the critical borders (Fig. 3). Also make sure that impression material did not flow
