Abstract

A brief overview is given of imaging techniques used in the scientific examination of works of art and archaeological artefacts. Such methods of surface examination are useful in conservation in that they help to assess the state of preservation and elucidate the processes used in creating the objects. A few imaging techniques are used in archaeology often as a preliminary to efficient excavation.
