Abstract
Seismic imaging and inversion techniques are designed to transform the recorded seismic wavefield into a physically meaningful and well-resolved image of the earth9s interior. The corresponding approaches are often applied on a certain scale, ranging from investigations of the shallow subsurface, via the characterization of reservoirs for mineral and hydrocarbon exploration, gas sequestration, or hydrothermal studies, to regional and global seismological soundings of the earth9s crust, mantle, and core. The related methodologies are rapidly evolving within academia as well as different industry branches, making increased use of the complete wavefield and sophisticated acquisition strategies.
