Abstract

Objective To study the application value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in the diagnosis of orbital tumors. Methods Form March 2010 to September 2011,38 cases (38 eyes) with different kinds of orbital tumors (included intraocular tumors) were studied in our hospital.Among the patients, there were 7 cases with orbital cavernous hemangioma,5 cases with dermoid cyst and mucous cyst,2cases with orbital dermoid cyst,5 cases with pleomorphic adenoma of lacrimal gland,2 cases with adenoid cystic carcinoma of salivary glands,4 cases with malignant lymphoma,6 cases with malignant melanoma of choroids,4 cases with hemangioma of choroids,1 case with inflammatory pseudotumor and 2 cases with subretinal hemorrhage. Before the surgery, all the patients were checked by two dimensional ultrasound,contrast-enhanced ultrasonography,CT and MRI.The results of the measurements were tested by pathological examination and treatment effect. Results Most of the orbital tumors (included intraocular tumors) had characteristic imagings in contrast-enhanced ultrasonography.Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography was statistically different ( P < 0.05 ) from CT or MRI in diagnostic accordance rate. Conclusions Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography can provide important information for the differential diagnosis of orbital tumors, and can give correct qualitative diagnosis in combination with CT and MRI.
