Abstract

The light intensity fluctuations at a fixed point in the image plane of a lens are investigated. An incoherent extended source, located behind a layer of a turbulent medium, is used as the object. The form of the statistical moments of the field at the source is analyzed and some consequences of its use are discussed. A general integral expressions is derived for the correlation function of the image intensity fluctuations. This expression is estimated for Gaussian aperture and source. The case of weak amplitude fluctuations at the aperture and the image is investigated.
