Abstract

This paper deals with the effects of load current distortion on supply current in matrix converters (MCs). The analysis of the effects of the load current distortion in an ideal MC is derived in space vector form. The analysis also includes the passive elements of the main circuits. In addition, a direct matrix converter (DMC) and an indirect matrix converter (IMC) are compared. The analysis is confirmed by both simulations and measurements, which also confirm the comparison between the DMC and the IMC. It is shown that the supply current distortion of the MC depends on the output current distortion and the real dc link of the IMC increases supply current distortion slightly compared to the DMC.
