Abstract

The article analyzes the bio-bibliographic profile of Pietro Leonardo Roncas, baron of Castelargento (1562-1639), and one of the most important figures of the government of Carlo Emanuele I, Duke of Savoy (1562- 1630). Furthermore, the text proposes a reappraisal of the documents related to Roncas, which have been kept so far in the Simancas archives (Valladolid), published here for the first time, as well as Roncas’ stay at the Spanish court in 1606. The travel diary of the baron, first published by Gaudenzio Claretta in 1872, also contains some essential news to understand his vision of the Hispanic world.
