Abstract
AbstractA worldwide network known as the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) today unites approximately 750 member organizations and institutions in over 100 countries around the globe. Among the aims and activities of IFOAM are: information exchange about all facets of organic agriculture; promotion of the worldwide development of organic agriculture; providing common platforms for interest groups; exchange of knowledge and experience among members and the organic movement as a whole; representing the organic movement in international institutions and agencies; continuously revising the IFOAM Basic Standards and the Norms for Accreditation; developing a harmonized international organic guarantee system from the basic standards to the IFOAM Accreditation Programme. The other topics covered include: the roots of the organic movement; the early development of IFOAM and its worldwide network; organizational change; IFOAM outreach; building and harmonizing the organic guarantee system; promoting organic agriculture worldwide, from the bottom up; and future concepts.
