Abstract
There is an emerging paradigm that views leadership as the result of social processes rather than as the result of a set of goals and activities conceived and conducted by the leader. This paradigm necessarily emphasizes the process of leadership as something apart from the characteristics, traits, style, motivations, or actions of the leader, or from merely some interaction of leader style and situational variables. The insights of the Dead Leaders Society are used to explore the nature, context, and role of leadership and to distinguish leadership from management.
