Abstract

In the current world, most of the systems are either in the process of automation or already automated. So, an intelligent and smart electric drive is required for the smooth operation. The selection of electric drive for the specific application is one of the key aspects in terms of its utility and reliability. For this the International Electro-Technical Commission publishes international efficiency standards from time to time for fractional Watt to kW motor rating. Based on these standards, different electric motors are designed to give the required output power. This paper discusses the different international efficiency standards i.e. IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4 and IE5, different types of electric drives that come under these standards, possible range of output power with their efficiency.
