Abstract

The demonstration that the ubiquinone isoprenologue present in Apiotrichum porosum (the type species) is Co-Q 9 has two implications: it precludes Apiotrichum from being a synonym of Cryptococcus (Co-Q 10) and it supports von Arx and Weijman's transfer of Candida humicola , the type species of Vanrija , to Apiotrichum . The demonstration that the ubiquinone isoprenologue of NCYC 461 (identified as Candida humicola ) is also Co-Q 9 supports the interpretation that it is another isolate of A. humicola .
