Abstract
Drought responsive cDNA library was constructed in P. cineraria from one-month-old seedlings subjected to drought stress by growing in PEG 6000 (35%) for a period of 10 days. The resulting library consisted of 564 good quality reads of which 164 showed significant homology to genes expressed in stress response. The P. cineraria library had 46 unigenes, 28 genes involved in diverse biological functions, 15 of which were genes for hypothetical function and 3 genes of unknown function. The study revealed identification and characterization of a repository of drought stress responsive genes having a role in drought tolerance in Prosopis cineraria.
