Abstract
This paper briefly reports an industrial application of modelling and control for a large kinescope glass furnace. It is a complex and nonlinear process. Heuristically based on a set of rough models, a compound adaptive control scheme which includes modified PID, feedforward loops, nonlinear compensation and a self-tuning controller is proposed for this multivariable process. A computer system (Intel 86/330A) with real-time operating system (iRMX86) is used to implement the on-line computer control. Real-time operation records have indicated that the modelling and control are satisfactory for the glass furnace and are economically effective.
