Abstract

The paper first gives a brief survey of the general features of real-time multi-tasking operating systems. Then two microcomputer, real-time operating systems, RMX-80 for Intel's microprocessors and OS-9 for Motorola's microprocessors, are reviewed in detail. Selection criteria are presented to help in choosing the best operating system for the application. The paper concludes with an application example of RMX-80 in an industrial microcomputer control system. The process to be controlled is a solid-fuel water boiler.
