Abstract
Pneumatic dilation with a > 30 mm balloon has been used for decades to treat achalasia and esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction (EGJOO), typically under fluoroscopic guidance. Recently, a 30 mm hydrostatic balloon that utilizes impedance planimetry technology (EsoFLIP, Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN) has become available in the United States, providing real-time visualization during balloon dilation without fluoroscopy. However, data regarding its utility are limited. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of EsoFLIP balloon dilation for the treatment of achalasia and EGJOO.
