Abstract
Cerebral infarction is an irreversible lesion within brain tissue resulting from a focal blockage in the cerebral arteries long enough time to prevent blood flow restoration. On the contrary, when the ischemia is temporary, symptoms are recovered spontaneously and there are no ischemic lesions, then the ischemic attack is defined as transitory. According with the etiology, ischemic stroke are classified in: atherothrombotic, cardioembolic, lacunar, unusual causes and uncertain causes. Ischemic stroke is an emergency requiring early diagnosis. Treatment and hospital patient care have to be implemented as soon as possible in the acute phase. Secondary prevention treatment, depending on ictus etiology, must always include an adequate control of cerebrovascular risk factor.
