Abstract
The brief report of W. F. Dodge and L. B. Travis concerning Iatrogenic Hypophosphatemia in Infants with Renal Insufficiency (Pediatrics, 35: 792, 1965) prompts me to air my doubts in A Letter to the Editor about the value of restriction of phosphate intake as a means of treatment for hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia encountered in infants with renal insufficiency. The difficulties posed by decreased renal capacity for phosphate clearance in renal insufficiency are well recognized. The importance of deficient intestinal absorption of calcium in renal insufficiency is, however, often overlooked.
