Abstract

The article discusses the need to study the life and work of I.S. Sablukov, the founder of the Kharkov Art School, due to the lack of information about him. The objective is to determine the direction of development of local artistic culture associated with Sablukov's pedagogical activity in Slobozhanshchyna and his personality. The research task is to establish biographical facts that shaped Sablukov as an artist and teacher. The article uses archival and historical research methods, analytical and systemic approaches. The study shows that the existing system in 18th-century Russia for selecting talented children for training in various arts and music gave them the opportunity to develop their creative abilities while receiving secular education. Returning to their homeland, they brought their knowledge and culture. Sablukov's life is a bright example of this. The Additional Classes created at the Kharkov Collegium were practically a reduced copy of the Imperial Academy of Arts. The system and methodology developed there formed the basis for teaching future artists in Slobozhanshchyna. Sablukov's pedagogical activity and his students played a decisive role in the formation of the region's culture, laid the foundation for unique Slobozhanshchyna art, and initiated the development of two directions in art: secular and religious.
