Abstract

Katie Matthews, Ph.D., considered herself taking the “scenic route” through jobs in the scientific community. She has gone from government nuclear facilities to working to help ocean policy, marine conservation, and fisheries management. Matthews’ “scenic route,” through multiple job opportunities in the scientific field, has become the best possible route for her career. Her past experiences in different fields of science has now given her the confidence and experience to succeed in her dream job. This story should show other people going through the same process that sometimes the scenic route can be the best route.
